WEARABLE AND COMANION APP
A wearable concert experience that turns movement and heart rate into live visuals.

PulseSync makes a concert audience part of the visual system. Two wearable modes translate motion and pulse data into a shared field of graphics, light, and response. I led the art direction, identity, interaction design, and motion language across the experience.

02 — TWO TYPES OF PULSESYNC

V1. Perfect for experimentation and customization
Version 1 includes a breadboard, allowing users to easily add more sensors using the included kit. While slightly bulky, the breadboard allows for easy customization, letting users add more sensors or even LED lights. The goal was to keep it modular and user-friendly for experimentation. With the fabric pocket, users are able to charge the external battery and also take the Arduino and battery out when feeling uncomfortable during the show.

Built from Version 1’s existing Arduino technology, with the breadboard removed and customization eliminated. The digital display was streamlined to show only time and heart rate.

V2. Ideal for everyday wear and performance use
Version 2 is a streamlined design without a breadboard, offering a sleeker, more comfortable fit with no external sensors. This version removes the breadboard to prioritize comfort and wearability. By directly wiring the components, it becomes more lightweight, flexible, and closer to a final wearable design.Though it sacrifices customization, it reflects a more realistic, performance-ready form by focusing on aesthetics, durability, and how it feels on the body during movement.

04 — PULSESYNC COMPANION APP

The goal was to make the app feel personal and connected, not just a data viewer, but something that brings your live music experiences and community together.

HOME · EVENT DISCOVERY
The home screen brings upcoming events and purchased tickets into one place. By syncing tickets from existing ticketing platforms, users can connect each event to its official tracklist, allowing their PulseSync artworks to be organized by song and revisited long after the show.

sync
The Sync screen guides users through pairing their PulseSync wearable with their phone and preparing it for a live event. As concert time approaches, the interface shifts to real-time tracking, allowing users to monitor their heart rate and movement as they generate personalized visual artworks throughout the performance.

ARCHIVE · PERSONALIZED RECAPS
The archive turns past events into a personalized record of each experience, organizing synced concerts and festivals by date. Each event features an intensity graph based on heart rate and movement, highlighting the songs that sparked the strongest physical responses and breaking down each performance track by track.

PROFILE · PERSONAL COLLECTION
The profile brings each user’s PulseSync journey together, featuring a tier system that rewards engagement and encourages continued use. Users can curate their Heart List of upcoming events, showcase favorite artworks in their Selected Works, and connect with friends to share their experiences and discoveries.
05 — PULSESYNC VISUALS

Audio wheel
Analyze layers of audio to create an audio wheel.
pulse data
Arduino Pulse Sensor controls distortion of shape.
Motion data
Arduino Gyroscope and Accelerometer controls motion of particles.

Full visual
Each layer responds to a different aspect of the performance (emotion, sound, and movement). Together, these data layers create a real-time emotional portrait—transforming your experience into a living artwork of your own performance. The track is also shown at the bottom so that when you share these visuals you know what song you were listening to at the moment.
06 - Code

Code for PulseSync's heart monitor and Arduino's built in gyroscope, to then connecting it to TouchDesigner.

the intent
Music is already deeply emotional—but PulseSync asks, what if we could see that emotion come to life? Not just through shaky videos, but additionally through real-time data that reflects how we truly felt during a performance. That’s the essence of PulseSync: turning internal experience into something visual, personal, and lasting.
